Safe Haven for Refugees Peterborough is so pleased to learn that a Grade 3 class at Edmison Heights Public School is prepared to help us reunite family members from Syria. We are ever so grateful to Mme Smith for taking on this fund-raising drive with her students.

In January 2016, Safe Haven had the privilege of welcoming the Alftih family from Aleppo Syria. Mohammad and Randa and their four children have now been settling into their life in Peterborough for over a year. While the family has done very well – opening a successful family business – Oasis Mediterranean Grill (OMG) this year, you can imagine the terrible longing and loneliness of our refugee community having left loved ones behind.

With that in mind, Mme Smith’s class has set their minds to raising $2000.00 to help with the costs of reuniting the family.

On Saturday June 17th the class will host a yard sale in the parking lot of Adam Scott from 8 am – 1 pm. All funds raised will go to Safe Haven through their sponsor Grace United Church. If you have items you would like to donate Mme Smith’s class is accepting donations on the Thursday and Friday before the sale or they are happy to accept items from 7 am to 8 am the morning of the yard sale.

There will also be a silent auction thanks to the generous donation of our families and local artists and businesses.
